Definitions related to different kinds of diets

  • Carnivores: Meat and fish eaters.
  • Herbivores: Only plant eaters.
  • Omnivores: Meat, fish, and plant eaters.
  • Vegan diet: It includes only foods from plants: fruits, vegetables, legumes (dried beans and peas), grains, seeds and nuts.
  • Vegetarian (or ovo-lacto- vegetarian) diet: is a vegan diet which includes eggs and dairy products.
  • The lacto-vegetarian diet: It includes plant foods plus dairy products.
  • Semi-vegetarians: don’t eat red meat but include chicken and fish with plant foods, dairy products and eggs.
