Viscoelastic Finite Element Treatment of Head Injury studies related to Neurological Diseases (i.e. Parkinson’s disease)

The study will involve computer simulations of head injuries using the power of Finite element method. The aim is to identify stress concentration areas within the brain. We speculate that such areas will result in local inflammation, which in turn could cause locally, the destruction of neurons. Then, depending on the location within the brain (i.e. substantia nigra) such inflammations may be the startup points of Parkinson’s disease. However, if such a stress concentration areas occur somewhere else in the brain, they may cause other diseases such as dementia, Alzheimer’s and probably many other neurological diseases. Our involvement in this study is in its initial stage.
